About us

UFO Game Entertainment is a nonprofit independent video games development house. We develop and publish free videogames for computers and mobile devices. Perhaps, in the future, we will move towards gaming consoles as well.

The purpose

At UFO Game Entertainment we want to remember old video games while shaping the new generation of gaming. We believe that we constantly need to remember where we come from and thank the outdated past that raised and strengthen us.

Let’s imagine Super Mario Bros. has never existed. What would be about today’s Mario mania? Let’s pretend that Nintendo has never approached Europe and America. What would be about today’s home entertainment? We might still be thirty years in the past.

This philosophy stands behind both our style and Tobidous. In fact, for this reason, our games are so pixelated and squared. Someone might not appreciate that, a lot of them are in love with it.

Nonprofit and independent

banner

Our work is hard, as managing a company without any money income is tough. But we do this because we all were players once and we know very well the frustration of annoying ads banners, forced in-app purchases, and expensive videogames. At the same time, we are spending a lot of money on it, as we deeply believe in it. You might be thinking now that the low-quality style is due to the lack of money we run into every day. Instead, such a “poor” graphic is because of our personal style, which tries to resemble old videogames, fathers of today’s entertainment world.

Style

When we show our games to people, there are two common thoughts. Someone looks interested and approves our style, saying it is a new retro; some others just laugh at it, justifying their laughter saying it is elementary and just too colorful.

Well… this is our style: pixelated, with basic and bright colors, with black contour lines as in kids’ drawings and without any detail that can somehow suggest three-dimensionality. Our style reflects in every video game sprite; people, objects, animals… no-one excluded.

Tobidou

Tobidou is the basic sprite you will find everywhere in our games where it is supposed to be one or more human character(s). You will notice them wearing different clothes but the main design will not change. It was created when UFO Game Entertainment was born and since then it has become an iconic image of the company. At that time, we were designing Super Flyer and we started with an empty canvas 32×32. It was a really small picture comparing it with modern smartphone-shot images, but we started from there and now we are here, developing games just because we like it, not for money. We eventually brought some updates on its elementary style, as you can see here. The last version includes a four-step walking animation.

Because we really like them, we would like you to have the opportunity to create your very own Tobidou too. Click on the following link which will bring you to the “Tobidou Creator” page. We developed the mobile application as well, so you can create Tobidous wherever and whenever you want, even on the go. On the dedicated page, you will find everything you need.

The story

UFO Game Entertainment was born on May 9, 2013, under the name of UFO Games. Its original purpose was to develop and publish video games that had to be astonishing and stunning as UFOs. The name was later changed to UFO Game because it had to develop one only debut video game. The company was later closed because of a lack of funds and loss of interest by some members, who eventually left UFO Game. The company reopened a year later thanks to Edoardo’s interest and belief, changing the name into UFO Game Entertainment – today’s one –  because it currently develops video games for entertainment purposes only. The site first opened in June 2017, after long development and serious styling improvements both started in 2015. Today we are working on several projects, we keep loving what we are doing, and we think that is the most important value in our job.

The path has been steep, bumpy and pretty difficult but we kept on hiking and in the end, we reached the peak, where we established our base camp.

The results

We are still working on our games and that is already a huge result. Did you remember what we were up to just a few years ago? We were about to abandon forever this whole happy project.

People we know have tested some development-previews of our games, and they are just asking when the video games are coming out. We love their appreciation! We hope to get even better results soon in the future.
